Day-to-day IR support

EC Workplace provides day to day telephone and email industrial relations support for all early childhood services. We aim to respond to queries within 24 hours via one of our consultants. All subscribers also receive a discount on all other EC Workplace Services.

IR Essentials for Early Childhood Leaders

A practical 2 hour in-person training session that equips ECTs, Nominated Supervisors, Educational Leaders, Centre Directors and other leaders to supervise staff confidently and lawfully whilst reducing risk to themselves. Participants will:

  • understand their lawful supervisory role
  • distinguish professional leadership from industrial relations authority
  • understand how to communicate directions and feedback appropriately
  • manage conflict effectively
  • recognise when to escalate issues
  • build and maintain a collaborative team culture.

Reportable conduct investigations

All early childhood services are obliged to report reportable conduct matters to the Social Services Regulator (which replaced Commissioner for Children and Young People in February 2026). EC Workplace is available to assist your service meet these obligations, including implementing an independent and impartial investigation into allegations of reportable conduct or misconduct that may involve reportable conduct. We are also available to assist your service with training staff and volunteers in all aspects of safeguarding best practice.

Workplace investigations

If a complaint or allegation of misconduct or serious misconduct has been made in your workplace you may be obliged to launch a workplace investigation to determine the facts based on the available evidence. EC Workplace can provide your service with a suitably qualified and licenced investigator to ensure an independent and unbiased investigation, which is recommended under the rules of ‘procedural fairness’ and ‘natural justice’.

Mediation

Staff conflict may be due to a misunderstanding or miscommunication and, if not addressed, may escalate. An avenue that has a strong track record of success is mediation. This is where a qualified and nationally accredited mediator brings the parties together to discuss their differences and work towards an agreed outcome. EC Workplace can provide your service with a nationally accredited mediator to facilitate a workplace mediation in a safe and respectful manner.

OHS and WorkCover support

EC Workplace is available to assist your service with specialist OHS and WorkCover support. This includes advice about OHS management responsibilities, responding to OHS issues raised by employees or their unions, and advice about how to respond to an accepted WorkCover claim.
